ecoVeritas Team had a Smashing Time…..
10th January 2018
At the end of 2017, as a way to welcome our new team members and take some time out before the busy submission period, the ecoVeritas team enjoyed an away day mosaic making. Our mission for the day was to create a decorative top for our coffee table and a new company sign for the office.
We decamped for the day to a studio at Waterperry Gardens (just outside Oxford) where we were ably tutored by Peter from Zantium Studios in the art of mosaic making. Peter first demonstrated the various tools and techniques required to prepare materials (from smashing tiles with a hammer through to the more delicate cutting and nibbling of tiles / crockery into specific shapes). After some practice we were then assigned tasks and set to in creating our ecoVeritas designs. As well as tiles in various colours (consistent with our company logo), Peter also provided some old crockery (collected from around the grounds at Waterperry) and sea washed glass gathered from the beach on his recent travels. These were added to the both the table and sign to give additional interest to the finished designs.
The day passed quickly, with us all having the opportunity to contribute different elements to the finished items. (There was even time for each of us to complete a personal project in addition to the creations for the office).
As a group of complete novices to mosaic making – we were all pleasantly surprised by what we managed to create in just one day, with Peter’s excellent guidance. If you ever have cause to come and visit it us you can take a view on whether we should set up a side line in corporate mosaic signage and furniture!
