Josh Remi, Commercial Manager of ecoveritas, has been announced as the latest speaker for this month’s Recyclable Packaging Conference.
The virtual event, hosted by Sustainability Packaging News, will take place on Thursday, May 19, and aims to give attendees a strategic vision for sector trends and a flavour of the challenges that may lie ahead. Remi is one of eight experts speaking at the conference, with thousands expected to access the event through the Sustainable Packaging News website.
The conference comes at a time when recyclability has shifted into sharp focus due to a proliferation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes, the EU’s Green Deal and changing laws that penalise packaging that isn’t recyclable, reusable, and doesn’t incorporate recycled content.
Remi’s session, titled Future UK Packaging Policy, will draw on his circa 15 years’ experience in the environmental sector as a consultant and commercial lead of global EPR and recyclability projects, while focussing on the current and approaching legislative landscape for packaging in the UK.
“The industry has made some progress regarding making packaging more easily recyclable, with developments across materials from flexibles to paper. And, perhaps most pleasingly, a growing impact is being made at the design phase as businesses look to adopt an upstream approach,” said Remi.
“The industry continues to move at a great pace, in part due to new legislation and the healthy tax incentive to make plastics recyclable. With design and production evolving over time, and sorting technology becoming more and more advanced, the space is becoming a more attractive investment environment.”
